JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Staff Assistant acts in a personnel and administrative role in the Bureau of School Improvement under the K-12 Public School Division. The employee acquires and maintains a deep understanding of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and of state and federal statutes, rules, guidelines, and requirements related to the administration of programs and services in the Bureau of School Improvement (BSI); manages personnel duties for bureau employees; assists the bureau director with the creation of reports and special projects for department leadership, legislative staff, and the public; and provides technical assistance to constituents related to the policies and programs of, and services provided by BSI and the regional teams.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include participating in inter-office projects as assigned, serving as the assistant to the Senior Educational Program Director and performing secretarial duties.
Serves as the personnel liaison for the Bureau by remaining informed with regard to the Department’s policies and procedures.
Assigns Corr Flow correspondences to School Improvement staff and ensures all assignments are submitted in a timely manner.
Assists with conducting inventory for the Bureau.
Assists in the preparation of paperless communications related to the Bureau of School Improvement and Differentiated Accountability.
Prepares purchase requisitions through MyFloridaMarketplace for equipment and supplies.
Prepares and submits travel authorizations and reimbursement forms for School Improvement, Differentiated Accountability, and Race to the Top staff.
Serves as the lead for the p-card system.
Receives, screens, and routes phone calls, messages, and incoming mail.
Assists with managing fluctuating workloads and expediting work at the bureau level, as needed.
Employs a proactive approach with day-to-day office operations, determining maintenance and workspace needs to ensure a productive work environment.
Engage in personal professional development activities to keep current on required computer skills and topics relative to job-related activities for grants processing, office management, and school improvement.
Attends meetings when requested and distributes necessary information to appropriate person.
Performs the duties necessary to support the work of the Differentiated Accountability team.

LEAVE INFORMATION:
Annual Leave- All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.
