List of Subordinates Supervised: None Residency Requirement: None Level of Education:   Bachelor of Science degree with a major in one of the biological sciences and one year of professional biological experience. Master of Science degree in one of the biological sciences and two years of professional experience in conservation programs, preferred. Years of experience can substitute for a degree. Description of Duties  : The Division of Habitat & Species Conservation is comprised of six sections and two offices. This OPS position is located in the Wildlife Diversity Conservation Gopher Tortoise permitting and customer service program Assists the Gopher Tortoise Program with handling phone calls and providing customer service and technical assistance to stakeholders. Processes Gopher Tortoise permits as assigned. This work is done in accordance with administrative timelines, including reviewing applications for completion and sufficiency, drafting Requests for Additional Information drafting permits, and other related functions. Answers phone calls, emails, and other correspondence and provides information and technical assistance regarding the permit application requirements, permitting process, and related regulatory procedures and rules, as needed. Permitting and Mitigation Compliance Attends and participates in regularly scheduled team meetings. Assists with compliance-related projects, as needed.Uses knowledge of Division of Law Enforcement (DLE) and relationships with DLE contacts to make recommendations and inform compliance-related decisions, outreach, and in-reach efforts. Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) Compliance and Law Enforcement Coordination Reviews gopher tortoise CAD reports (S69G) and imports them into the WIMS database for monitoring and compliance purposes. Monitors CAD incidents and updates the WIMS database accordingly to ensure records are complete, accurate, and current. Follows up on gopher tortoise CAD reports with necessary biologists, DLE officers, reporting parties, and/or Gopher Tortoise Assistant Biologist. Function includes informing and providing technical assistance to involved parties regarding pertinent rules and any actions taken by FWC staff/officers related to reports in a professional, articulate, and courteous manner. Compiles additional necessary information (e.g., via property appraiser websites) to fulfill data collection needs for CAD report records in WIMS. Networks and develops working relationships with DLE officers, particularly in areas with high levels of gopher tortoise issues, to improve communication and provide current information about gopher tortoise rules and policies. Sends anticipated site disturbance and disturbed site letters and maintains associated templates and records. Imports information on DLE investigations related to gopher tortoise issues into WIMS, particularly regarding investigations that are recently closed or listed as previously ongoing, and the resolution of those cases. Assists or leads in developing in-reach/reference materials for DLE related to gopher tortoises. Miscellaneous Completes miscellaneous tasks such as timesheet submissions, required training and paperwork, attending meetings, and participation in other FWC events.Seeks professional development opportunities, as appropriate and available.Attends appropriate outside workshops and meetings with partners and stakeholders to develop positive working relationships. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful applicant will have a commitment to natural resource conservation. The preferred candidate will have strong organizational (time management, project management, data management), customer service, and problem-solving skills. Prior understanding of or experience with scientific and/or technical writing is important. The ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and should demonstrate proficiency in using technical and scientific expertise to inform and execute projects. The a bility to work 40 hours a week with occasional overnight travel for conferences, meetings, training, and other relevant activities is required. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Florida’s fish and wildlife, ecology, and natural communities. Familiarity with management plans and permitting guidelines pertaining to the Gopher Tortoise is strongly preferred. In addition, the candidate should have the a bility to establish and maintain effective working relationships, contribute to a team setting, and be able to work independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Adobe Acrobat, Google Earth, SQL, Sales Force, and ArcGIS Online is desired.
