This advertisement is for a SES position located at Tallahassee Central Office Salary Range: $77,454.52 – $90,732.46 SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position serves as the Assistant Bureau Chief within the Bureau of Admission & Release and is responsible for planning, directing and coordination work activities related to the operation of the Sentence Structure Unit (Court Order Unit, Commitment Auditing Unit, Revocation/ Fugitive Unit); requiring supervision of 3 professional level managers).

Provide oversight of statewide annual training, assisting in development of detailed and effective curriculum to be presented in training sessions to classifications staff throughout the state as well as Central Office.

Conduct analyses regarding the impact of an array of significant court decisions and legislative changed affecting sentence structure, release date calculations, post-release supervisor period calculations and determining eligibility of early release credits and programs.

Provide technical assistance to statewide field staff, criminal justice and stakeholders concerning sentence structure/release date calculations.

System Development/ testing in OBIS/CDC

Oversee the statewide implementation of Electronic Commitments at Reception.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the automated release date calculator

knowledge of Florida statutes and case law decisions governing inmate sentence data and gain-time eligibility/application

ability to use problem-solving techniques.

ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

ability to communicate effectively.

ability to understand and apply rules, policies and procedures, knowledge of the criminal justice system.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Currently emploed with the Florida Department of Corrections.

Bachelor's degree or Classification Supervisor lever and higher can subsitute for the required education.

Possess experience in analyzing legislation or developing rules, policies, or procedures.

Possess 5 years’ supervisory experience at a Classification Supervisor level (or higher)

Possess experience in interpreting statutes or case law relating to inmate sentencing.

Possess experience in developing and providing training to staff in a classroom setting.

Possess at least 10 years of experience in interpreting, processing court ordered sentences, and establishing release dates.

Possess experience in systems development to include involvement in writing and submitting work orders that effect the way the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) structures sentences, calculates release dates, and determines edibility for gain time.

Possess experience testing the changes made to the Department’s logic in the release date calculator.
