JOB TITLE: Irrigation Technician

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

HOURS: Full Time (35+ hours per week)

REPORTS TO: Director of Landscape

COMPANY OVERVIEW

The Marshall Creek Community Development District serves the residents of the Palencia community located off US 1 in St. Augustine, Florida. Palencia was created by international developer Hines and resembles the community-oriented designs of places like historic St. Augustine and San Marco. Different from other master-planned communities in Northeast Florida, Palencia has a full range of world-class amenities. Palencia’s recreational amenities include golf, tennis, swimming pools, tennis center, fitness center, athletic fields, and pocket parks. There is a 30-acre park system which is interconnected by boardwalks and fitness trails leading to the intercoastal. The MCCDD also offers swim & fitness classes, holiday events, food trucks, and many other exciting programs to its residents.

SUMMARY

The Irrigation Technician at Marshall Creek Community Development District is responsible for overseeing the irrigation systems owned and operated by the District. They will perform duties such as inspecting, repairing, and installing irrigation equipment and systems, using their expertise to enhance water conservation efforts and maximize productivity. This role requires a combination of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of irrigation principles.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES include the following:

Conduct irrigation inspections and make necessary repair.

Ensure cleanliness and organization of irrigation tools and equipment.

Maintain irrigation equipment stock and replacement parts inventory.

Set up portable irrigation pumps as required for specific projects.

Manage and perform hand watering when necessary.

COMPETENCIES:

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to respond within a 24-hour time frame.

Proven experience in irrigation, preferably in a residential or community setting.

Ability to interpret technical manuals and irrigation specifications.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Must be able to use equipment such as gas-powered pumps, trenchers and sod cutters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment for an Irrigation Technician is dynamic and community-focused, encompassing various landscape areas such as recreational spaces, parks, natural areas, and plant beds that require irrigation maintenance. This role involves outdoor physical labor in fluctuating weather conditions, including tasks like digging and working in wet and muddy environments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to lift and move heavy objects, work in various environmental conditions, and perform physical tasks as required, and operate equipment necessary for completing tasks. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

TRAVEL:

Occasional travel for the purpose of supplies may be required occasionally within a 100-mile range of the facility. Mileage reimbursement will be applicable at current IRS rates for use of personal vehicles. No overnight travel is expected for this position.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, typically working eight hours per day centering around a 6:30am to 3:00pm schedule with some flexibility required. A weekend on call rotation may be required. Overtime will be paid for hours worked beyond a 40-hour work week.

QUALIFICATIONS:

2+ Years irrigation experience including coordinating and managing projects and vendors.

Written and verbal communication skills.

Computer literacy.

Valid Driver’s License required.

Technical training in irrigation is preferred.

High School Diploma or equivalent.
