Senior Trades Worker / Heavy Equipment Operator

Bureau of Operations and Maintenance

Job Summary: This is skilled work on heavy equipment and vehicle operation and maintenance.

Job duties include:

Operate vehicles and equipment such as: pick-up, dump truck, front end loader, dozer, backhoe, grader, excavator, low-boy transport, farm tractors with implements, boats, and airboats. Performs preventative maintenance on District vehicles and equipment.

Perform maintenance tasks including but not limited to welding, carpentry, painting, masonry, concrete, plumbing and grounds maintenance.

Perform routine maintenance on water control structures, pumps, gate motors, engines, levees, canals, and other related infrastructure.

Perform maintenance on pavilions, pole barns, inclement weather shelters, tent platforms, walkways, HDS platforms and gauge stations.

Perform other related duties as assigned, follow procedures to ensure a safe work environment, and maintain an orderly, healthy, and safe work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or G.E.D. and four years of experience as described above and a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker N endorsement or the ability to obtain within one year from date of hire. Formal education may substitute for work experience.

The District may pay for the Entry-Level Driver Training program and may reimburse for other fees associated with obtaining the CDL license through a provider of the District’s choice. After the initial Entry-Level Driver Training program paid by the District, if a CDL is not obtained, employee will be responsible for the cost of subsequent training.

SJRWMD has determined this to be a mandatory-testing position as described in Section 440.102, Florida Statutes and the Commercial Motor Vehicle Drug Testing Program as described in 49 CFR Part 382. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon successfully passing a drug screening paid by SJRWMD. Ability to:

Work independently and maintain a daily work plan utilizing light and heavy equipment in all general construction activities. Demonstrate the ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

Endure harsh outdoor environments in uncomfortable/extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and remote locations; lift and/or move equipment; maintain a priority of safety, make effective, consistent, and defensible decisions.

Mostly working primarily outside but some office work for records maintenance.

Equipment, tools, and uniforms are provided for this position.

Starting Salary Range: $41,620.80 - $52,020.80

Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
