Job Description: Technical Project Manager
Job purpose
The Technical Project Manager is responsible for overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals. They are responsible for providing project planning and management for these initiatives. They ensure that projects are completed to specification, within an established time frame and budget. They use their industry and development expertise to improve all aspects of project planning and resource management.
Duties and responsibilities
Define and manage a well-defined project management process and champion ongoing process improvement initiatives to implement best practices for Agile Project Management
Apply, promote and contribute to Agile delivery methodologies, standards and tools
Responsible for various project reporting consisting of tracking Estimates versus Actuals and Managing to Earned Value, using Burndown Charts
Facilitate the definition of the project scope, project management/SDLC approach, milestones, tasks, deliverables and resource requirements
Develop and maintain project plans, status reports, risk and issue logs, budget/ongoing project forecast of resources and materials and other project related artifacts
Oversee the daily tasks of highly technical personnel while ensuring active momentum toward established milestones
Effectively negotiate project resource needs and competing priorities independently of management
Create and execute strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning
Manage, assess, and negotiate project scope changes
Ensure that assigned projects are delivered in compliance with all department standards, policies, and guidelines
Apply appropriate levels of methodology tailoring to meet project-specific needs, while still operating within the standard project management framework
Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise members of the project team and pure-play project managers
Escalate issues that require executive, management or business attention
Manage vendor performance and drive deliverables to meet agreed upon target dates and levels of quality
Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals
Ensure business engagement throughout the project, project decision making, managing scope/budget changes, business requirements elicitation and prioritization, acceptance testing, training, etc.
Attend conferences and training as required to maintain proficiency
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
10+ years working experience in project management
5+ years of software engineering experience
Demonstrated track record of success at delivering software development projects on time, within budget, and with high quality
Knowledge and application of industry standard project management principles and methodologies
Experience delivering solutions using various Software Development Lifecycles
Exceptional organizational, communication, and time management skills
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Experience working with internationally distributed teams preferred
Experience delivering SaaS solutions preferred
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
Positive and professional attitude
Ability to engage relevant stakeholders across functions to document and communicate impediments
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and take accountability in work
Ability to rapidly learn and administer new workflow systems or toolsets with minimal supervision
Prior experience with both Agile and waterfall SDLCs
Familiarity with Project Management groupware like Jira, Asana, and/or MS Project
Agile certifications a plus
PMP Certification a plus
Masters degree in Project Management or Technology field or commensurate experience required
