$17.00 per hours – 40 hours per week

Your Specific Responsibilities:

The GTMNERR is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to fill an Aquarist/Reptile Husbandry position. The GTMNERR is one of 30 National Estuarine Research Reserves around the country that focuses on research, education, and stewardship. The Reserve is comprised of 76,000 acres of land from Ponte Vedra Beach to Palm Coast.

We are looking for an applicant to work in our Resource Management department that is proficient in the care of aquarium animals with an interest in caring for reptiles. The Visitor Center houses saltwater, freshwater, and estuarine aquariums both on display and off. The aquarist’s main focus is to provide care to the visitor center’s animals and maintain an optimal environment for them to live in. Must have knowledge of filtration systems and water quality testing and management. Will also assist the park rangers with opening and closing duties, taking out trash, and cleaning restrooms. Preferred Sunday-Thursday with a Tuesday closing shift, but schedule is negotiable.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to clean aquarium tanks and filters

Knowledge of filtration systems

Knowledge of water quality testing and management, monitoring of water quality and temperature

Perform routine water changes

Repairing of equipment

Observing animal behavior

Knowledge to provide behavioral enrichment activities

Opening and closing procedures – training provided

Cleaning restrooms, removing trash

Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have the ability to work independently with little supervision

Must be able to work weekends and holidays

Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Follow verbal and written instructions

Maintain a valid Class E driver’s license
