The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for an Ophthalmic Clinic Assistant in the Department of Ophthalmic Clinical Services with Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.The Ophthalmic Clinic Assistant coordinates the patient flow in and out of the exam rooms to ensure exam rooms are prepared for each visit and provides general administrative support to the clinic.JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs and documents the following items in the electronic medical record.

Reason for visit

Tangent screen visual fields

Chief complaint

Basic ocular motility

History of present illness

Pupillary evaluation

Basic review of systems

Ocular surface assessment

Review systemic and ocular medications

Eye drop administration

Record allergies

Intraocular pressure such as Goldman, Tono-Pen, and I-Care

Pharmacy information

Pachymetry

Family, social, medical, and ocular history

Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses

Visual acuity at distance and near

Color vision test

Lensometry

Stereopsis test

Manual refraction

Sensorimotor exam

Confrontational fields

Automated & manual perimetry

Humphrey visual fields

Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields

Amsler Grid visual fields

Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care.

Provides patient-centric care. Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training.

Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.

Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.

Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.

Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.

Meets daily productivity goals.

Ensure all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.

Participates in assigned clinical research and maintain required certifications.

Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.

Travels to satellite offices when necessary.

Works evenings and weekends as needed.

Performs organizational duties as assigned.
