Heavy Tow/Wrecker Operator

As a Heavy Wrecker Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient towing and recovery of heavy vehicles and the boom operation to move heavy loads. Your role will involve responding to calls for service, assessing the situation and vehicle condition, safely hooking and unhooking vehicles, and transporting them to the designated location. This position requires a high level of professionalism, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Respond to service calls for heavy vehicle towing and recovery in a timely and efficient manner.

Assess the scene upon arrival to determine the safest and most effective method for towing and recovery.

Operate heavy tow trucks and equipment, including winches, booms, and lifts, to tow or recover vehicles.

Ensure the safe loading and securing of vehicles onto the tow truck to prevent any damage during transportation.

Communicate effectively with dispatchers, law enforcement, customers, and other stakeholders.

Perform minor repairs and adjustments to vehicles as needed.

Maintain the wrecker and equipment, ensuring they are clean, operational, and in compliance with safety standards at all times.

Adhere to all traffic laws, safety protocols, and company policies.

Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation related to towing operations.

Provide excellent customer service, offering reassurance and support to customers in stressful situations.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record.

Certification in heavy towing and recovery is preferred.

Experience in operating heavy tow trucks and equipment.

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work in all weather conditions, at odd hours, and be on call for emergency situations.

Physical ability to handle heavy objects and operate equipment.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The Heavy Tow Truck Operator will often work in challenging outdoor environments, including inclement weather, at accident scenes, and along busy roadways. The role involves significant physical activity, including lifting, bending, and maneuvering heavy equipment. Operators must be prepared to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as be on call for emergencies.
