Power Transmission & Systems Principal Consultant

This position can be filled at any location in the US.A Snapshot of Your DayWe are seeking a Power Transmission & Systems Principal Consultant to use his/her technical & commercial background and expertise to orchestrate technical studies related to new power generation, storage or load resources wanting to interconnect to the transmission network and guide clients in selecting the optimal solutions. Later, he/she will review and sign off recommendations that solve specific challenges of isolated, inverter-based power systems being implemented to decarbonize an existing industrial site. In between meetings, he/she will present virtually to new clients our offering portfolio. Finally, the Principal Consultant will review the progress of the several consulting engagements under his/her oversight and check status vs. planned workplan.How You’ll Make an ImpactAs a Power Transmission & Systems Consultant you are,

Overseeing the execution of analyses of power systems, engagements regarding transmission and industrial network planning, and grid interconnection studies of large generation, storage and load resources.

Engaging with clients to define a successful ISO new interconnection application and FERC approval roadmaps, highlighting potential risks and commercial implications.

Supporting the integration of power electronic devices, renewable generation, storage devices, HVDCs, etc. into AC grids (from conceptual studies to project execution).

Supporting the analyses of high frequency phenomena like harmonic distortion, transient overvoltages, TRV, missing zero-crossings, inrush currents, etc.

Engaging in business development activities by developing proposals to address our clients’ challenges and putting together the appropriate execution team.

Managing consulting engagements through completion, aligning team members from different technical backgrounds within a multi-cultural environment, including the selection and oversight of sub-contractors.

Presenting the results of the bespoke work to clients’ key stakeholders.

Mentoring junior team members in elevating their domain expertise and consulting mindset.

Identifying new consulting offerings, quantifying the market potential and developing the business case(s).

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical power engineering (Master’s or Ph.D. degree preferred).

8 or more years of relevant professional experience conducting power system analysis both in steady and transient states. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.

Strong knowledge and experience in transmission planning and operating studies (100 kV 765 kV), power system performance analyses including load flow, dynamic stability, voltage stability, protection coordination, short-circuit and transfer limits).

Deep understanding of ISO new resource application approval processes and grid planning considerations. Relevant experience working and communicating with ISO, RTOs, utilities, and developers.

Experience in conducting NERC Modeling (MOD) and Protective Relay (PRC) reports and tuning of power system stabilizer.

Advanced skills in HVDC applications, power transmission systems, NERC compliance, power electronics and new resource commercial development.

Experience in power system simulation programs (e.g. PSS/E, TARA, PSLF, DigSilent PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD/EMTDC, MATLAB/Simulink).

Appreciation of electrical balance-of-plant and industrial power supply concepts are a plus.

Demonstrated successful track record of a consulting project portfolio.

Hands-on expertise in programming tools such as Python, FORTRAN, MATLAB, etc.

Superior ability to communicate technical and business strategies orally and in writing, think creatively and analytically, apply problem-solving skills within a consulting environment.

Proficient language skill in English is required.

Flexibility to travel as needed, up to 40%.
