POSITION OVERVIEW:Maintain accountability for fleet maintenance personnel, activities and equipment readiness within an assigned Operations district. Support and educate service center managers at non-shop locations on fleet maintenance procedures and compliance.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Lead, educate and develop fleet maintenance managers and supervisors; build a strong bench for future leadership positionsOversee all fleet maintenance activities, goals and compliance efforts in assigned territoryAccountable for district fleet maintenance goals, established quotas, shop budget and equipment repairsMonitor and analyze all opportunities to cut costs and improve efficienciesCollaborate with Operations leadership to ensure equipment is maintained and equipment-related needs are metSupport shop leadership in determining vendor needs and obtaining required assets and training to achieve business objectivesPerform scheduled shop and equipment inspections ensuring fleet maintenance standards are achieved; review inspection discrepancy issues and formulate action plan to resolve issuesAnalyze safety initiatives; develop strategies to improve employee safety; ensure compliance with all Federal and/or state requirementsLead quality efforts and special projects with district and/or company significance, as neededComply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/proceduresPerform other duties as requiredDisclaimer: This job description is general in nature and is not designed to contain or to be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job.QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of college or equivalent work experience plus five (5) years’ fleet maintenance-related experience, including two (2) years’ supervisory/management experience

Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance, including employee roles and responsibilities, machines/tools, methods, materials and environments

LTL experience, including familiarity with service center operations, preferred

Must possess a valid driver’s license

Outside vendor management experience, preferred

Proven leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, negotiation and interpersonal skills

Must be organized and possess the ability to effectively multi-task

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Able to track expenditures for budget review and project future needs of the assigned territory

Experience using Microsoft Office Software, including but not limited to: Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet

Strong knowledge of OSHA safety regulations; shop environment regulations; Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards; Federal Motor Carrier Safety Requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job

Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, diesel fumes and noise

Exposure to varied weather conditions

Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases or other irritants

Must be able to travel
