The Food Service Assistant plays a vital role in supporting meal preparation and distribution at our homeless shelter. Under the guidance of the Kitchen Supervisor, you will assist in preparing, cooking, and serving meals to residents while ensuring a safe, clean, and respectful environment for all guests. Your compassion and dedication will contribute to the shelter’s mission of providing nutritious meals and a supportive atmosphere to individuals in need.

Mon-Thu-Friday-Sat- Sun 12pm to 8pm. Tue & Wed OFF
OR
Mon-Tue- Wed- Sat- Sun 12pm to 8pm. Thu & Fri OFF
Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing and cooking meals following health and safety guidelines.
Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and dining area, including washing dishes, cleaning counters, and sanitizing surfaces.
Rotate and label food items to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
Work closely with kitchen staff, volunteers, and other shelter team members.
Assist with other shelter duties as needed, contributing to a supportive community atmosphere.
Qualifications:
Prior experience in food service, kitchen assistance, or related fields is helpful but not required.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices preferred.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
Compassionate, respectful attitude toward all shelter residents and team members.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes emotionally challenging environment.
