Description The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of the organization by assisting in various accounting tasks and financial analysis. This position involves maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, and assisting in the preparation of financial statements. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in accounting principles and software.Overview of Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP.
Prepare and record journal entries for routine transactions, accruals, and adjustments.
Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing reconciliations and supporting schedules.
Analyze financial data and trends to identify variances, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
Maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation schedules and asset reconciliations.
Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes by providing financial analysis and supporting documentation.
Prepare and file sales tax returns and other regulatory filings as required.
Assist with internal and external audits by providing supporting documentation and explanations as needed.
Collaborate with other departments, such as purchasing, sales, and operations, to gather financial information and support decision-making processes.
Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and improve financial reporting processes.
Provide support to the accounting team and management as needed, including ad hoc reporting and special projects.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required
Proven experience working in accounting or finance roles, preferably in a corporate environment.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in data entry and reconciliation.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
