The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the RosenstielSchool of Marine, Atmospheric & Earth Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-timeSenior Research Associate I position to work as a Science Communications Specialist at theOcean Chemistry & Ecosystems Division (OCED) at NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic andMeteorological Laboratory (NOAA/AOML).The successful applicant will be responsible for summarizing research and developinginformational products, and to communicate science funded and conducted by NOAA/AOMLand CIMAS. The position is for one year with the possibility of continued employment withavailability of funding and satisfactory execution of duties. The incumbent will be under thegeneral supervision of the Director of CIMAS and will receive direct supervision from the leadscientists and communications personnel at NOAA/AOML and CIMAS.SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:● Interact with scientists and communication staff to summarize research and projectsconducted at AOML.● Produce informational products, develop digital content for the web, social media andprint, and publish research highlights for dissemination on public channels including theAOML website.● Communicate and conduct outreach with the public, managers, and stakeholders on theresearch efforts at AOML.● Report on performance of website content for Ocean Chemistry & Ecosystems Division.● Report of his/her annual progress to the Director of CIMAS and the Director of OCED atAOML.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:● Applicants must possess a master’s degree in marine science, communication or a relatedfield from an accredited university, and some professional experience in sciencecommunications.● Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, and experience working aspart of a communications team to develop informational products.● Ability to interpret scientific research and papers for plain-language summaries and otherwidely distributed science content, as well as experience writing research highlightspertaining to oceanography, ocean chemistry, and marine ecosystems.● Familiarity with NOAA style guide, basic website design principles, Google Analyticsand Google Search Console, Adobe Indesign, WordPress website development platform,and developing printed and video communications materials (ability to create additionalresources such as data visualizations and story maps is preferred).● Familiarity with research conducted and funded by AOML and the Ocean Chemistry &Ecosystems Division, and ability to independently develop website content incollaboration with scientists at AOML.● Must be highly motivated, independent, organized, and have the ability to adapt andactively solve unforeseen problems to a dynamic lab environment.The University of Miami is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Females/Minorities/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities are encouraged to apply.
