Apply Today!Job Summary and QualificationsThe Operating Room Technician Trauma demonstrates knowledge of surgical instruments and principals of sterile technique. The Operating Room Technician anticipates the needs of the surgical suite within the scope of the position’s competencies with the use of critical thinking. The Operating Room Technician adheres to hospital policies and procedure, is supervised by the Registered Nurse, and collaborates with the surgical team to improve customer satisfaction. The Operating Room Technician is a supportive role and will be implemented, as the needs of the department require.Major Responsibilities:

Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.

Prepares sterile instrument table as well as gathering equipment after procedure for cleaning and sterilization.

Accurately completes all sponge, sharp, and instrument counts and reports all discrepancies to the nurse or surgeon.

Positions patient accordingly to type of surgery.

Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.

Provides comfort and support pre-operative patients.

Transports patients to and from surgical suite.

Assists the surgical team in surgical procedures which may include passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.

Cleans and prepares room between procedures and after last case; restocks supplies when necessary and organizes effectively for end of case clean up.

Maintains a safe work area.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.”

Specialty-Specific Responsibilities

Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.

Properly handles specimens: Identifies specimen appropriately with the physician – maintains specimens during the procedure and checks with surgeon prior to passing off field.

Obtains specific supplies, non-narcotic medications and equipment: Checks preference cards prior to case and makes arrangements to obtain special supplies.

What qualifications you will need:

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

Operating Room Scrub Technician Certification (CST)Preferred

Completion of an Accredited Surgical Scrub Technician Program or experience working as a scrub tech

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

Minimum of one year of surgery experience preferred

Skilled in all surgical service lines: Trauma, General, Robotics, Ortho, Neuro, Vascular, Urology, Gynecology, and ENT
