The Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency at the University of Miami/UHealth is currently seeking a full time Community Education Specialist 1 to work in Miami, FL. The OPO Community Education Specialist 1 plans, develops, and implements internal and external communication projects and initiatives on behalf of the assigned department. The incumbent creates and identifies opportunities to promote a favorable perception of organ donation and transplantation to internal and external audiences. An employee in this position also acts as a liaison to departments within the University and external parties to provide communication supportCORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Develops communication materials, including web information, fact sheets, letters, emails, and instant messaging for the purpose of communicating with target groups.

Plans and implements targeted communication campaigns.

Acts as the point of contact for project-related questions and makes recommendations to resolve problems and issues.

Logs contact information and discussion topics for yield analysis.

Maintains information databases, and tracks, measures, evaluates, and reports achievements of internal and external communication goals.

Develops reports and distributes them to department leadership.

Assists with the administration of the assigned department’s communication budget.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets

1-3 years of relevant experience

In order to best communicate with our DSA and community; the ability to speak, read and write in Spanish and/or Creole, preferred.

Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Department Specific Functions

Identify and attend community education related events in any of the 6 counties LAORA services (Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, St. Lucie, Monroe, and Collier counties). Events can occur Monday – Sunday, morning, afternoon, or evening. Service assigned DMV/Tax Collectors regularly.

Work directly with LAORA volunteers at events, for trainings, etc. Provide them with opportunities to make visits to DMV/Tax Collectors, attend tablings/events without oversight (if trained and signed off). Volunteers consist of transplant recipients, donor families, workplace partners and those within our community who support the Mission of LAORA and organ transplant.

Create and market stories about LAORA events, volunteers, and other organ transplant related items.

Works collaboratively and cross functionally with other LAORA divisions to include Administration, Aftercare, Marketing, Social Media, etc.

Uses data provided through US Census, DLF Dashboards (donor registry), LAORAIS, OPTN, etc. to identify where the greatest need is for outreach to set goals and metrics.
