The Quality Control (QC) Field Technician is responsible for the quality control testing on projects as required by the project specifications. This is a critical role within Ajax and is a core component of Ajax’s mission in the asphalt industry. This role requires attention to detail, hard work, and accuracy in everything they will be doing. This requires performing field testing and various calculations to determine specification compliance. Ajax will provide all tools, a company truck, training and coordinate certification efforts for this position. We require that they be team-oriented and understand they are a key contributing factor in the successful completion of the work as directed by the Quality Control (QC) Manager
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The QC Technician directly reports to and is accountable to the QC Manager.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A. EDUCATION
Required: Graduation from high school
Preferred: 2 years of current FDOT project work experience
B. CERTIFICATIONS
CTQP - Asphalt Paving Levels 1 and 2 certifications (Ajax can provide if needed)
C. SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Self-starter mentality and well organized
Self-disciplined with good communication skills
Detail-oriented and accuracy are critical
Ability to take directions and work well in a team environment
Computer use: Excel and Word.
D. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The essential functions of this position include standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, driving, core trunk movements, lifting (minimum of 45 lbs), carrying, pushing/pulling, and working at ground level.
E. TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS
Ability to communicate (in English). Requires knowledge of general mathematics, reading, and writing.
F. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Outdoor Florida conditions, with noise and around heated materials. A roadway construction environment, asphalt paving operations, asphalt manufacturing plants, and testing laboratories. Work shifts are day and night, so hours will vary.
G. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Major duties include (but not limited to) the following:
1. Perform testing and documentation in accordance with project specifications.
2. Complete required reports accurately and honestly.
3. Follow Ajax safety rules as outlined in the employee handbook and OSHA rules.
4. Be prepared and on time to perform duties.
5. Prepare requested reports for the QC Manager accurately and timely.
6. Communicate with the QC Manager regarding problems that can affect the operation.
7. Develop relationships with potential customers and suppliers.
H. AUTHORITY
The QC Field Technician has the authority to accomplish all the responsibilities that are established by the QC Manager.
