That's what we do every day.The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.As a member of the Modeling and Simulation team, candidate will perform a multi-discipline role as a Simulation System Administrator in the development and operation of NASA's Spaceport Command and Control System (SCCS). Under general supervision, the candidate will provide design, development, integration, testing, documentation, and support of the simulation computer systems and network infrastructure.ResponsibilitiesAreas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: Review user requirements and perform analysis, design, implementation, installation, testing, maintenance, and documentation related to new hardware and network designs. Perform administration of Linux systems that support software development, testing, and verification activities. Ensure compliance with applicable standards, processes, and design philosophies. Assist with real-time troubleshooting, anomaly resolution, and system recovery as necessary. Participate in design panels, technical assessments, and analysis tasks to determine how new capabilities and changes will impact the products and rest of the system. Perform other related duties as assigned.The candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in computer science, engineering, or technical equivalent from an accredited institution, and at least four (4) years of relevant, full software life-cycle experience. Additional education may be substituted for relevant experience.Depending on the candidate’s experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.Highly Desirable Skills Full life-cycle architecture, design, development, testing, integration, delivery, and maintenance. Tier III Linux and Windows system administration and troubleshooting. Computer hardware architecture in support of near real-time processing. Architecture and maintenance of high-availability servers and virtual environments. Installing, hardening, and patching operating systems (Ubuntu, Windows, VMWare, RHEL) in accordance with industry best practices and agency security plan. Installing and configuring COTS software. Linux OS:o Modifying kernel configurations, managing multi-threaded applications, designing and configuring virtual networks for VMs and Containers, understanding partition, volumes, and resource allocation.o Authoring and maintaining technical procedures.o Experience with one or more of the following: Bash, PowerShell, XML or a scripted programming language (Python, Perl, TCL, etc.)o Comfortable working in a CLI environment.o Able to articulate design deficiencies and enhancements for operating system images.Desirable Skills Experience administrating software in support of safety-critical software development. Experience in network administration or troubleshooting. Knowledge of network devices and architectures (servers, firewalls, and switches). Experience using Ansible, Pupet, Chef, MaaS or other system automation solutions. Producing consistent positive results with minimal direction and supervision. Prioritizing and executing in a fast-paced environment with varying requirements and deadlines. Working both independently and in a team environment.Physical Requirements May be required to climb stairs to access equipment for trouble shooting. Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and other associated personal protective equipment. Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures. Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.Work Environment May be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex. Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site. Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand, may be required to access various locations on the facility. Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety standards.Equipment and Machines Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules. Variety of equipment used in testing.Attendance Full-time work hours. Position may require occasional overtime, including weekend work, depending on task. Must be dependable and punctual. Shift work may be required.Other Essential Functions Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication. Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
