DescriptionAre you passionate about building and promoting community resilience? We’re seeking an Emergency Preparedness and Response professional to join our team. In this role, you’ll provide consultative assistance to local agencies, ensuring they’re well-prepared for disaster situations. Here’s what you’ll do:

Emergency Preparedness: Collaborate with local agencies to develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans. Stay up-to-date with local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to emergency and disaster operations.

Emergency Response: Be available for after-hours response assignments. Assess situations under emergency conditions and provide recommendations for effective courses of action. Demonstrate leadership and initiative during crisis situations.

Community Engagement: Foster information sharing and support proactive community outreach, public participation, and public awareness. Facilitate presentations and trainings on community preparedness initiatives.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategic Planning:

Develop and implement strategic plans for community engagement and disaster response initiatives.

Align these plans with organizational goals and community needs.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

Cultivate relationships with local government agencies, community organizations, faith-based groups, and nonprofits.

Foster collaboration and resource sharing.

Community Coordination Teams (CCT):

Coordinate and oversee CCT activities.

Allocate necessary resources (funding, personnel, equipment) in collaboration with stakeholders.

Monitor effectiveness and evaluate outcomes.

Outreach and Advocacy:

Engage community members in disaster preparedness activities.

Establish and maintain the County’s Volunteer Organizations Active in a Disaster (VOAD) program.

Represent community resilience efforts at local meetings and events.

Volunteer Deployment:

Coordinate volunteer deployment during disaster events.

Ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational guidelines.

Education, Experience, LicensingEducation and Experience:

Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or specialized courses/training.

Two years of college in public administration, emergency management, or a closely related field.

Two years of emergency management or closely related experience.

Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.

Preferred Knowledge:

Familiarity with FEMA’s Community Lifelines Construct.

Knowledge of the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP).

Understanding of radio communications.

Skills:

Ability to review and analyze technical reports related to natural disasters and emergency operations.

Strong communication skills.

Collaborative work with diverse stakeholders.

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with availability for emergency call-outs. Flexibility to respond after hours and work extended hours during emergencies.
