Line cooks have many responsibilities, including:
Preparing food: Line cooks prepare ingredients, chop and slice vegetables, and make sauces. They also cook menu items using a variety of cooking methods, such as grilling, frying, and sautéing.
Maintaining cleanliness: Line cooks keep their stations clean and organized and follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures. They also monitor expiration dates and inventory.
Cooking and plating: Line cooks cook and plate meals according to the restaurant's recipes and standards. They must prepare food in a consistent and timely fashion.
Collaborating with the kitchen team: Line cooks communicate with their team, manager, and front-of-house staff. They coordinate with other line cooks to ensure that meals come out on time.
Setting up and stocking stations: Line cooks set up and stock their stations with all necessary supplies.
Assisting with catering events: Line cooks may assist with catering events as needed.
Line cooks should have:
Knowledge of various cooking techniques and food safety regulations
The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Experience with kitchen equipment
