Requirements:

  • • Pharmacy Technician services must have completed a formal Pharmacy Training Program with a Pharmacy Technician license or certification in one of the 50 states, Guam or Puerto Rico.
  • • Must have at least 6 months of Pharmacy Technician experience
  • • Current CPR certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • • Current vaccines including COVID-19
  • • Current TB

Responsibilities:

  • • Ordering, stocking, storing, and dispensing of prescription and non-prescription medications while demonstrating knowledge of the budgetary guidelines and Formulary constraints.
  • • Maintain pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion consistent with departmental safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • • Maintaining stock of up-to-date medications (checking for outdates per policy) in the main pharmacy, satellite camp, both crash carts, emergency bags and Automated Dispensing Systems.
  • • Maintaining stock of forms as needed and updating Pill Line/Restricted Medication Administration records for inmates as well as filing Medication Administration Record's into the Medical Record.
  • • Will prepare unit dose or pre-packaged medications.
  • • Complete and maintain competency as indicated by ability to complete the Pharmacy Competency Module while maintaining knowledge of Formulary and any changes to this document.
  • • Maintain the narcotics count along with the needle and syringe inventories.
  • • Maintain and re-stock adequate supplies for the Pyxis machine and perform audits of Pyxis machine.
  • • Possess a working knowledge and maintain technical computer skills pertaining to pharmacy issues.
  • • Must participate in Improving Organizational Performance Data and Quality Assurance Activities as directed by the BOP Pharmacist or HSA.
  • • Perform minor clerical duties, such as use of electronic medical record, computer documentation and scheduling, scanning documents, filing, typing, callouts, institutional memorandums, answering phones, scheduling patients and maintaining stock records.
  • • Assisting Nurses/Paramedics inside the correctional facilities with pill distribution and administration per doctors' orders, followed by documentation of administration in the inmate's electronic health record. Medication administration (pills, narcotics, injections) via pill line and documentation of such via the inmate Electronic Medical Record. Interacting with inmates regarding their medications and providing patient education about the medication.
