Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Florida State Hospital (FSH) is a mental health treatment facility owned and operated by the State of Florida and is part of the Department of Children and Families. This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve asRehabilitation Therapy Supervisor – SES. T his position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

This is professional work supervising and directing employees within the Community Reintegration Program. The primary duty of the incumbent in this position is to spend the majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to effectively recommend actions such as: hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, promote, discharge, assign, and reward or discipline direct reports. Evaluates employees against established standards and takes appropriate actions when necessary (i.e. recognition, reward, corrective action, etc.).

This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting. Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledgeable of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management.

Responsible for oversight of the design, implementation, evaluation and revisions of the Community Reintegration Program within Rehabilitation Services including Vocational Services and programing located at Florida State Hospital, a large state inpatient mental health treatment facility.

Supervises assigned staff delivering Rehabilitative Services and Vocational teaching to assigned program areas per departmental procedures and protocols.

Ensures that Community Reintegration program conform with specific standard and policies, including development and implementation of policies and procedures, compliance with Department of Labor standards, and compliance with Wage and Hour Pay standards.

Assists in the management of financial activities in regard to the Community Reintegration program including review of budget and monitoring wages for patients.

Participates in the assessment, screening and scheduling process for placement of residents into appropriate programs.

Conducts direct services/coverage where needed to ensure services are provided as needed. Conducts on-site program evaluations and makes recommendations for project committees and unit management.

Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of one of the allied health field disciplines or one of the rehabilitative sciences.

Ability to supervise people.

Ability to oversee educational, vocational or rehabilitation therapy programs.

Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments.

Ability to write evaluation and progress reports.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas to be considered for the position: Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, Psychology, Counseling, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Education, Physical Education with course work Adaptive Physical Education, Vocational Education, Dance Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Leisure studies with course work in Therapeutic Recreation, or Horticulture Therapy.

Two years’ experience supervising others.

Preference will be given to applicants who have:

Experience working in the field of mental health or vocational rehabilitation.
