Salary Rate: $50,000.08 annually SALARY WILL BE APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PAY POLICY. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE APPOINTED AT THE ABOVE LISTED APPOINTMENT RATE. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing special education services and teaching assigned academic subjects to students with disabilities in a correctional institution/facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Provides consultative and direct services to students, teachers, job supervisors, and other staff, as needed, to monitor implementation of the Individualized Education Plan and discusses/devises methods and modifications to meet individual student needs.

Conducts Staffing and develops draft Individualized Education Plans for students with disabilities.

Conducts IEP meetings to finalize Individualized Education Plans for students with disabilities.

Prepares and maintains all documentation related to students with disabilities.

Conducts transition planning and makes referrals. This includes liaison and coordination with institutional psychological, medical, and classification staff and may include liaison with other agencies or institutions.

Identifies needs for re-evaluation and coordinates re-evaluation assessments with Department personnel.

Counsels and advises individuals regarding their progress, behavior, or personal concerns.

Provides specialized instruction, assists teachers with providing accommodations and modifications, and regularly monitors student service provision and student progress.

Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops to update and enhance skills and to facilitate professional development.

Maintains Professional Educator Certification with Exceptional Student Education endorsement to include any required continuing education coursework.

Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques including learning theory, group and individual teaching techniques, application of accommodations, implementation of modifications to curriculum, design of Individualized Education Plans and test design principles.

Knowledge of information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments including alternative treatments, rehabilitation equipment and its proper use, and methods to evaluate treatment effects.

Knowledge of human behavior and performance, mental processes, psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, alternative delivery systems, and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques.

Skills in using multiple approaches when learning or teaching new things.

Skills in talking to others to effectively convey information.

Skills in being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react the way they do.

Skills in developing approaches for implementing an idea.

Skills in assessing how well one is doing when learning or doing something.

Skills in listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate.

Skills in understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

Skills in communicating effectively with others in writing as indicated by the needs of the audience.

Skills in adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.

Skills in motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.

Skills in Motivational Interviewing.

Basic computer skills.

Ability to create Microsoft Word documents.

Ability to make entries and maintain Excel spreadsheets.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university; and

Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.

SPECIAL NOTE: Non-certified applicants must obtain a State of Florida Educator’s Certificatewithin 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate. State of Florida Educator's professional certificate in an Exceptional Student Education subject area must be obtainedwithin 36 months of appointment.
