Chyrus Coffee is a D.C. based small business which brews, delivers, and services draft coffee for restaurants, bars, and cafes. Our goal is to enable our customers to easily serve a cold coffee beverage which matches or exceeds the quality of their other menu items. We work with roasters and producers focused on economic and environmental sustainability while maintaining a high degree of consistent quality.
We are seeking an individual to assist with the delivery of kegs, and basic on-site preventative maintenance(such as line/faucet cleaning).
This person will communicate regularly with our small team of three via Slack, while covering a lot of ground throughout the Washington DC metro region, delivering kegs, chatting with persons of contact on site, and fixing minor draft issues. A typical day for this role looks like:
Loading our all-electric commercial van with between 20-60 45 pound coffee kegs at our production space in NE DC. This is easier than it sounds, we have a great loading dock so there’s no major heavy lifting, though you’ll have to be able to comfortably move the kegs around.
Mixing and filling cleaning vessels(takes about 5 minutes).
Loading and securing 3-6 nitrogen tanks(roughly as heavy as the kegs but are pressurized to about 2000psi, so extra care must be taken).
Driving the van on a pre-determined route of between 5-15 locations within the Beltway(there are a few exceptions which are further out). The total route is approximately 20-70 miles per day.
Delivering kegs at each location/account, checking the status of nitrogen gas on site, cleaning the lines and faucets, checking in with the manager on duty, occasionally collecting payment(vast majority of our accounts prepay online), and retrieving empty kegs.
Each delivery is logged in a Google Sheets doc, and you’ll snap a picture to confirm delivery.
Driving the empty kegs back to our production space, plugging the van back in.
All technical skills required by this position can be trained. What we’re really looking for is someone who is comfortable safely driving a small commercial van around the DC region, ideally has an interest in the food/beverage world, can chat with people while maintaining focus on the job at hand, and can deal with the physical demands of moving 45 pound kegs around. Real experience with commercial draft equipment is a plus, but not required. High emotional intelligence is a huge plus, but also not required(just gotta be nice/respectful to people ya know?).
A commercial driver’s license is not required. The van is a Ford-350 eTransit so not super heavy-duty, but a check on your personal driving record will be conducted.
Expected hours are 15-20/week. Pay is 19$-23$/hr. Days are moderately flexible, Tue-Fri, pick two or three.
To apply, please send your resume, a short paragraph or two about why you’re applying, and answers to the following prompts to the Craigslist relay email.
