DESCRIPTION

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for providing expert level diagnosis

and repair for all motor truck and/or heavy construction equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all levels of preventive maintenance on truck and/or heavy equipment.

Inspect braking systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, hydraulics, and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.

Identify warrantable repairs and document repair orders.

Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment / machinery.

Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance with factory specifications.

Maintain work area safety and orderly appearance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of three (3) years practical experience working with truck and/or heavy construction equipment required.

Must have strong parts background.

Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines and transmissions), OEM training courses, ASE certification and 608/609 certifications – preferred.

Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade required - includes welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and power tools.

Computer skills required for data entry into maintenance systems.

A valid driver’s license required; current CDL license preferred

MOTOR TRUCK / HEAVY EQUIPMENT

Includes, but not limited to the following: Engines (gas and diesel), electrical/brake/cooling systems, transmissions (manual and automatic), hydraulics, power train, clutches, differentials/power dividers, PTO systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, power steering systems and steering gear boxes.
