Mechanic Essential Functions:
Diagnoses, services, maintains, and repairs some light, and medium equipment including repairs on transmissions, clutches, exhaust systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, and brake systems; further improves skill level in the diagnosis, service, maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment such front-end loaders, backhoes, street sweepers, and rollers.
Performs preventative maintenance on all Town vehicles and equipment.
Welds; makes modifications on vehicles and equipment; overhauls diesel and gas engines.
Communicates with drivers and operators; performs test drives.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as written repair/service orders, verbal request for repairs, visual, smell, and feel.
Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment; such as Police vehicles, light duty vehicles, and some heavy equipment, shop machinery; such as tire changer, balancer, brake lathe, Diagnostic tools hardware and software based OTC Genisys, EASE, and J Pro Commercial.
This is an essential position among the Town's work force and subject to work during inclement weather conditions or other designated emergencies.
Additional Duties:
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as work orders; notes; parts list; schematic diagnoses; patterns and drawings; verbal summaries, inquiries, and confirmation; parts/material requirements; and timelines.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Supervisor, co-workers, suppliers/vendors, manufacturer, employees in other divisions, and the general public.
Refers to National Traffic Safety Office website; OEM Service Manuals; customer verbal explanations, concerns, or suggestions, wiring diagrams, schematics, and diatom keys, manufacturer website; policy and procedure manuals; codes / laws / regulations; publications and reference texts; gradually diminishes the frequency of referral to some references.
On an occasional basis: drives dump trucks; works with leaf crews; operates street sweeper to clean parking lot; operates sander/plow to help during emergencies; operates loader to load and unload heavy/large deliveries.
Maintains positive relationships and attitudes with co-workers and customers.
Helps other divisions as needed.
Performs related work as assigned.
