More information at htp://www.thetaskforce.orgPosition Location: Washington, DCPosition Reports to: Director of Conference and EventsPosition Supervises: Assistant Director of Creating Change Conference, Conference Coordinator, Conference Intern(s)/Fellow(s)Position Travel Estimate: Up to 40%Position Summary: The Creating Change Conference Director is responsible for strategic planning, development and implementation of the National LGBTQ Task Force's annual Creating Change Conference and supervises the Creating Change Conference Team. The Creating Change Conference is the foremost political, leadership and skills-building conference for the LGBTQ social justice movement. Since 1988, Creating Change has created opportunities for many thousands of committed people to develop and hone their skills, celebrate victories, build community, and to be inspired by visionaries of our LGBTQ movement and allied movements for justice and equality. A successful conference director candidate will have a proven track record of envisioning, managing, and implementing large scale conferences/ events; the ability to manage and support diverse groups of staff and volunteers; and possess a strong racial, economic, and social justice analysis. As a management employee, this position is exempt from the bargaining unit.Position Responsibilities:Oversee the Creating Change Conference Strategy and Planning:In partnership with staff and external partners and stakeholders, establish annual Creating Change Conference goals and objectives.Pull from past conference experience to strategize with staff about programmatic and systems innovations that will continually improve the Creating Change Conference experience.Oversee and manage the budget process for the annual creating change conference.Oversee the annual Request for Proposals, registration, program & plenary, and awards selection processes, working with staff and key stakeholders; and identify the specific levels of event support and capacity needed for each conference component and align on the scope of work (logistics, marketing, programming, etc.) that requires support.Project Management and ExecutionCreate and execute strong project plans to assign responsibilities, establish clear decision-making and feedback loops.Lead regular check-ins with staff, consultants, vendors and volunteer teams to ensure progress on event project benchmarks.Coordinate with vendors and execute on-site logistics for conferences, volunteer events, fundraiser/stewardship events, and other conference promotional events.Coordinate and conduct regular communications (phone calls, emails, meetings, funder reports, etc.) with all internal and external stakeholders (staff, vendors, partner teams, decision-makers, etc.) and oversee the annual conference evaluation process, and any other needed assessments. Operations, Communications, Marketing ResponsibilitiesMaintain accurate and up-to-date records, expense and revenue budgets, and attendee data to track event effectiveness.Develop and maintain operational systems to manage complex projects and report progress to staff, funders and key stakeholders. Participate in Task Force and external affairs-related activities, including staff meetings, professional development conferences and retreats, fundraising events, and other public relations opportunities.Work with the Communications, Marketing and Branding (CMB) Department to produce a marketing strategy, collateral, printed materials, merchandise, videos, photos, emails, and social media to promote the conference and related events.Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: The ideal candidate is an energetic, forward-thinking, politically astute, relationship-oriented and creative individual with strong attention to detail. Strong quantitative results orientation and qualitative interpersonal skills are a must. Additionally, possessing the capacity to think strategically coupled with the ability to excel operationally is critical for success in this role. 6 or more years' experience managing large-scale (2,500+) conferences or events, with complex programming including virtual events.Demonstrated experience in supervising teams of staff, vendors, consultants and volunteers.Outstanding project management and organizational skills, extraordinary attention to detail, able to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively under deadlines and work independently with consistent follow through.Demonstrated ability to lead through an intersectional social justice lens, with a demonstrated track record of skills and experience with racial justice, gender justice, disability justice, faith/spirituality, economic justice. Ability to excel and deliver in a fast-paced environment under multiple and competing deadlines.Excellent articulation skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a wide range of people efficiently and effectively.Results-oriented team player dedicated to getting the job done.Flexibility, professionalism, strong judgment and decision-making skills, tenacity, high-quality work, resourcefulness, teamwork, and a sense of humor.Professional demeanor with strong self-confidence, initiative, and demonstrated leadership skills.Experience in LGBTQ or related social justice movement a plus.Integrity and commitment to National LGBTQ Task Force mission and vision.Experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-racial environment where commitments to diversity and inclusion based on race, ethnic origin, gender, age, physical ability, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression is an important institutional value.
