PRACTICE OVERVIEW
We are a new law firm opening in March 2025. Practice area will be criminal law. Law firm will be headquartered in the District of Columbia and will operate under DC Rules of Professional Responsibility §5.4(b) which allow for nonlawyer investor partners in the law firm.
Law firm will provide Clients ranging from criminal law cases to DUI cases. Law firm is expected to have up to twenty (20) Clients per month. Attorney will receive ownership in the firm in exchange for his/her labor, plus 70% of Client fees. Law firm will also pay for Westlaw/LexisNexis, Insurance, etc. There should be no out-of-pocket expenses for the Attorney partner. As the caseload increases, Associates will be hired to assist on cases.
Attorney should expect to handle around ten (10) DUI cases per month along with larger criminal law cases per the Attorney's professional judgment. Attorney will be paid per case, on a case by case basis. Attorney has the right to accept or decline cases. Law firm will be competing against other firms, so the Attorney must be able to accept or decline cases within 24 hours. If the Attorney declines too many cases or is consistently too slow to respond to prospective Clients, the Attorney will be removed from the law firm.
