I am looking for a responsible, dependable caregiver to help me on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) in the morning and evening. Male or female is fine. I am in a wheelchair, a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the chest down, so anything that requires hands or feet, I need help doing. Compensation for your help is $25/hr. The position requires that you have a driver’s license. I live with my wife in a house in Darnestown, outside of Germantown and Gaithersburg. The nearest bus route is 1½ miles away so having your own vehicle/transportation is required. Additionally, we have a dog, a very friendly yellow lab, that I need help with too.

The two shifts are Saturday and Sunday:

6:00 AM – 10:00 AM, and then

6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

This is a split shift position, with two shifts on Saturday, and two shifts on Sunday. So, you would help me in the morning from 6 AM until 10 AM, then return at 6 PM to help until 9 PM. Attendance must be on time and consistent because my wife has personal fulfillments that she cannot miss due to absentee caregivers.

The morning shift typically includes help with personal care (i.e. bathing, toiletries, grooming, etc.), range of motion stretching exercises, dressing, transferring from bed to wheelchair and wheelchair to bed, breakfast preparation, and driving me to appointments or possibly work associated activities. There is also some light cleaning and housework: laundry, cleaning my bathroom, the bedroom and kitchen.

The evening shift usually involves helping me with activities after dinner but may include assisting me with dinner. The shift may require driving to activities and running errands. I typically go to bed no later than 8:00 which requires caregiver help; that involves, transferring from wheelchair to bed, help with some toiletries, undressing, range of motion, etc., usually lasting around 60 minutes.

I am a professional 63 year-old disabled man, married and in good health. My wife and I prefer to keep a reasonably clean and quiet home. We enjoy work, family, music, reading, road trips and travel, movies, cooking, a good conversation with a friend, engineering projects, etc. My wife is busy and often gone during the day. We are Christians, spiritually active and attend church weekly.

If you are interested, please call Barry, at 425-327-1850 (text first please). We can talk further and possibly set up a personal interview appointment. Please call before 8:00 pm. Also, all applicants must be able to complete an in-person interview, so please apply only if you live in the area.

Thanks,

Barry
