Prep-Cook/ Delivery Driver Position
We are a meal delivery service located in Arlington, VA, providing our clients with a week’s worth of nutritious meals every week. We prioritize the highest quality ingredients and tailor our meals to accommodate food sensitivities and allergies.
We are looking for a team member to assist us on Tuesdays, our meal service delivery day. Responsibilities include assisting with some light food preparation along with labeling and packing meals, followed by delivering the meals to customers. Most deliveries are in Arlington, with some in nearby areas of Virginia and DC.
Here are the qualities we are looking for in an ideal candidate:
-1-2 years of experience cooking and/ or baking in a restaurant kitchen or commercial kitchen. Culinary school education is beneficial, but we understand the value in learning from mentors in a professional kitchen over time.
-Excellent knife skills would be a plus.
-The ability to work quietly, efficiently, and carefully in a non-distracting manner. The ability to focus on the job at hand and let teammates focus on their work.
-The ability to follow specific instructions from the chef, while still being intuitive and knowing when to ask questions.
-The ability to follow a recipe carefully and properly.
-The ability to take initiative, stay busy, and have a good sense of what needs to be done next.
-Excellent communication skills. Can communicate clearly and respectfully with delivery customers via text messages. Excellent computer skills would be a plus.
-Valid driver’s license and the use of a reliable vehicle for deliveries every Tuesday. Vehicle is clean, tidy, and presentable as it will be carrying our meal service bags full of prepared food. Ability to drive in all weather, including snow and ice.
-Interest in nutrient-dense food and anti-inflammatory diets would be helpful. We would love to work with someone who has an interest in nutrition.
-College education or similar experience would be helpful. We love to work with people who have experience in other fields, but have transitioned into a career in food.
-Serv-Safe certified or willing to take the certification exam.
-Fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19 (this is a requirement to work in our kitchen)
-Excellent references and undergo background check.
-Reliable. Arrives on time or early, even in the usual terrible DC area traffic.
-Always kind, respectful, and professional. We have zero tolerance for a toxic work environment.
Responsibilities of the Prep-Cook/ Delivery Driver:
-Arrive on time, preferably a few minutes early in order to be ready to start work on time.
-Tidy and clean appearance. Hair tied back. Clean apron.
-Maintain a clean working space.
-Work alongside 2-3 other team members for about 5 hours a day. We often take an all-hands on deck approach to getting the job done. -Tasks include: prepare food, label and carefully store prepared food, follow checklists and pack meals into cooler bags, help to wash dishes and clean the kitchen, help with organization, transport meals from the kitchen to the delivery vehicle.
-Make deliveries in Arlington and surrounding areas. Communicate with delivery customers as needed. Return cooler bags from the week prior to the kitchen.
-This is a every Tuesday position, with average hours in the kitchen ranging from around 9-10 am until 2-3 pm. Deliveries will take an additional 2-3 hours. Deliveries include dropping off meals at a customer’s residence and collecting a cooler bag of reusable containers from the week prior to return to the kitchen.
-This would be a great position for someone who has a restaurant job and is looking for additional work on Tuesdays. The light food preparation includes, for example, breading fish or chicken, baking 1-2 dozen muffins or egg breakfast muffins, along with making dressings, and cold sauces.
As our meal service grows, this position could expand to additional work on different days if the candidate has interest.
Compensation:
We pay competitive hourly rates for the Prep-Cook/ Delivery Driver position. Deliveries are paid as a flat rate per delivery.
