We are seeking a highly reliable and detail-oriented Cat Care Specialist to join our team. This position requires a deep commitment to the well-being of animals, strong communication skills, and the ability to follow precise care instructions. Our ideal candidate has experience in pet care, understands feline behavior, and is proactive in ensuring the safety and comfort of pets while their owners are away. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced pet care professionals—such as veterinary assistants, animal shelter workers, or professional pet sitters—looking to supplement their income while doing meaningful, hands-on work with animals.
Duties:
Provide high-quality, in-home pet care for cats, fish, and small mammals, ensuring each pet’s individual needs, routines, and comfort are met with professionalism and attention to detail.
Follow precise care instructions provided by pet owners, including detailed feeding schedules, behavioral routines, and medication administration, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
Administer medications confidently and correctly, including oral, topical, and injectable medications (as instructed), ensuring adherence to veterinary and owner guidelines.
Engage in structured enrichment and companionship to reduce stress and promote well-being, especially for cats with separation anxiety, medical conditions, or behavioral sensitivities.
Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by scooping and refreshing litter boxes, removing pet waste, and ensuring food and water areas are kept tidy and replenished.
Monitor pets for any signs of illness, distress, or changes in behavior, recognizing early warning signs and promptly reporting concerns to the pet owner with detailed documentation.
Communicate professionally and thoroughly with pet owners using an app-based system, providing updates, photos, and visit reports in a timely and engaging manner.
Ensure physical capability to meet job demands, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, standing, crouching, climbing stairs, and safely navigating homes with varying layouts.
Travel to clients' homes in Fair Lakes, Fair Oaks, Oakton, Reston, and Herndon, arriving punctually and maintaining a professional, trustworthy presence at all times.
Requirements:
Hands on pet care experience (pet sitting, veterinary assistance, animal rescue, or similar). Must provide references on request.
Knowledge of feline behavior, handling techniques, and stress management. Experience working with nervous, senior, or special-needs cats is a plus.
Proven ability to administer medications (oral, topical, and injectable preferred) with precision and confidence.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex care instructions. Applicants must be able to track feeding schedules, behavioral routines, and medication dosages accurately.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to update pet owners professionally and clearly using an app-based system.
Reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and willingness to drive between client homes in Fair Lakes, Fair Oaks, Oakton, Reston, and Herndon.
Commitment to punctuality and reliability. Pet owners rely on us for timely care—this is not a casual or temporary position.
Physical capability to meet job demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs, walking, standing, crouching, and climbing stairs.
Availability for weekends, and holidays—these are peak times for pet care needs.
Must be at least 21 years old to apply. Due to insurance requirements.
Must live within 15 minutes of Reston.
