Position DescriptionIf you love high profile and challenging projects supporting the US Navy- Serco has a great opportunity for you! This Technical Writer position will be on a dynamic team, supporting Team Submarine. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense and safety of our sailors.Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for their Team Submarine contract supporting the acquisition of submarines. The Team Submarine concept unifies once diverse submarine-related activities into a single submarine-centric organization with the goal of eliminating traditional stovepipe structures and processes that created impediments and inefficiencies in the submarine research, development, acquisition, and maintenance communities. Team Submarine provides improved communication among the various offices that contribute to the overall success of the United States Submarine Force.PMS450 oversees the design, construction, and delivery of the VIRGINIA Class Submarines. General Dynamics Electric Boat (EB) and Huntington Ingalls Industries-Newport News Shipbuilding (HHI- NNS) build the Virginia-Class submarines for the U.S.Serco-NA is seeking a motivated individual to provide programmatic support to PMS450. The Technical Writer would be responsible for reviewing, assessing, and analyzing technical reports covering Navy submarines, then in collaboration with senior Serco and Navy staff, prepare timely written technical assessments and decision papers, letters, and packages for official release.In this role, you will:

Generate innovative ideas for content while working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Take complex, technical information and translating it into an easily understandable format, per customer guidelines translate technical information to clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.

Organize material and write descriptive copy according to established standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.

Develop, write, and edit functional descriptions, specifications, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents.

Meet with subject-matter experts to ensure specialized topics are appropriately addressed.

Review and/or copyedit content developed by other members of the team, and perform other duties as assigned.

Work closely with others to interpret engineering drawings, reports, and other data to ensure production of technical documentation that complies with customer requirements.

Translate technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.

Develop, write, and edit functional descriptions, specifications, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents.

Excellent interpersonal and administrative skills to meet needs of the program office.

QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will have:

A Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in writing, business, engineering, technical field, or related degree.

Five to seven year’s experience writing complete, complex technical documents, including organizing the document and working with internal and external personnel (e.g., agencies, customer) is required.

Must have a current or active DoD Secret clearance.

Previous submarine experience is a significant plus and preferred.

Knowledge of NAVY shipboard and submarine systems, and DoD acquisition programs, preferred.

Previous military and/or mechanical aptitude/experience is preferred.

Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Intermediate level of proficiency with desktop publishing tools.

Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills. Must be fluent reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.

Experience conducting research and ensuring use of proper technical terminology.

Experience writing, reviewing, and editing requirements and specifications for Federal contracts is a plus.

Knowledge of Federal acquisition terms and concepts.

Meticulous attention to detail and effective professional correspondence.

Ability to work independently to create, track, and report on plans to complete multiple documents on the project in a timely fashion with minimal supervision.

Must work well within a time sensitive environment - ability to work under tight deadlines.

Ability to understand and succinctly summarize, communicate, and document technical issues.

Knowledge and understanding of agency structure, organizations, programs, missions, and functions sufficient to provide support in the planning, development and coordination of the management and administrative activities of the office.

Proficient in preparing, selecting, organizing, and presenting information concisely.

Ability to facilitate and coordinate efforts with key government and non-government stakeholders.

The ability to travel 10% of the time.

Additional desired experience and skills:

Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.

Previous submarine experience is a significant plus and preferred.
