THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior HVAC Marine Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will provide design and development support in shipboard Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration systems and will assist the USCG Ship Design Team with the following technical discipline areas of small boats, patrol boats, buoy and construction tenders, icebreakers, and flight-deck capable ships.Typical Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and evaluate ship propulsion and control systems specifications as they relate to Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC).

Perform design reviews and feasibility analyses on concept, preliminary, contract, and detail design of marine HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Provide documentation and support on integration HVAC systems and elements.

Conduct HVAC&R trade studies. Lead engineers in development efforts, reviews of technical data packages and coordinate with other functional areas to complete ship design.

Location: Full time onsite at USCG Headquarters in Washington DC.Travel: Up to 10% travel is anticipated.Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.US Citizenship Required: Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment.Security Clearance Eligibility Required: This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred);OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.

An ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.

At least ten (10) years of recent, relevant experience, including:

At least five (5) years of documented experience relating to the design of marine HVAC and/or refrigeration systems.

Knowledge of ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard HVAC systems.

At least one (1) year of experience related to federal ship or boat building acquisition programs.

Experience with ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.

An ideal candidate will also have one or more of the following:

Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

DHS Systems Engineering Certification.

DHS Program Management Certifications.

Ability to lead engineers in development efforts, provide oversight for junior staff, coordinate with other functional areas to complete ship design, and manage high-visibility, mission-critical programs.

Familiarity with the USCG Standard Workstation and associated software products.

Proficient with common productivity software.

Strong communications skills.
