Position DescriptionLooking for a Systems Safety Engineer opportunity at a place you can make a difference every day? Discover this great opportunity in our Washington, D.C. location. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense and safety of our sailors by discovering your new role supporting this critical mission.The Systems Safety Engineer will primarily support the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Chief Engineers (CHENG) Principal for Safety (PFS).In this role, you will:

Assist in preparing the CHENG PFS for regular Weapon Systems Explosives Safety Review Board meetings.

Assist in the development of system safety engineering policies, directives, procedures, and guidance.

Assist in maintaining a database of all Failure Review Board reports and associated actions. Work with stakeholders to close out the actions.

Assist in knowledge sharing of system safety topics across the NAVSEA enterprise.

Assist in managing INSURV.

Assist in developing and tracking Navy Advisories and writing policy for issuing those advisories.

Assist in interactions with the Navy Safety Command.

QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will have:

A current or active DoD Secret level clearance.

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or similar) with eight to 10 years of experience.

The ability to Audit Program level PFSs qualification packages to ensure they are correct and complete.

The ability to provide correct and concise guidance and training to Program PFSs in system safety engineering policy, methods, and standard practice.

The ability to conduct safety reviews in coordination with program PFSs the interfacing Technical Warrant Holders and the Program Office.

The ability to review system safety plans and programmatic environment, safety, and health evaluations.

The ability to review and evaluate information included in the Navy’s Electronic Hazard Assessment Report database (eHAR). This may include checking if information input by PFSs is correct or providing some sort of data analysis.

The ability to review and respond to casualty reports and hazard reports that relate to systems safety.

The ability to travel at least 10% of the time.

Additional desired experience and skills:

Ten years of system safety experience in a DoD (Navy preferred) PFS.

Master’s degree preferred.
