The Research Specialist will assist with tasks associated with grant-related research activities of the James Madison Legacy Project Expansion (JMLPE) funded by the U.S. Department of Education being conducted by Dr. Diana Owen of the Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) program at Georgetown University. The grant supports collection of data and analysis to determine the effectiveness of professional development programs (PD) on civics/social studies/American government teachers and the influence of the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution (WTP) curriculum intervention on their students. The PD program and the WTP curriculum are designed and implemented by the Center for Civic Education (CCE), a non-profit, non-partisan education organization. Duties include by are not limited to:
Track study participants, collecting, collating, and analyzing interview data.
Collect and analyze student media literacy data/written materials.
Work with teacher and student survey data, reporting on research findings.
Assist with the administration of the research program.
Work InteractionsThe Research Specialist position supports the administrative, research, and evaluation functions of the JMLPE. The position reports to Dr. Diana Owen, Professor in the Communication, Culture, and Technology program, who is the principal investigator for the JMLPE. The position assists Dr. Owen in carrying out the research required by the grant. The position is integral to the research function of Georgetown University and to the goals of supporting large, grant-funded projects.Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Up to 2 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and work experience)
Demonstrated ability to perform independently and communicate scientific results and participate in a highly collaborative environment
Must possess a strong work ethic and be self-motivated to learn and become familiar with primary scientific literature
Knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices, and methods
Computer literacy and strong statistical, analytical, and research skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, time management, attention to detail, and organization skills are essential
