The Research Assistant works within the Department of Government and will support the creation of an annual American Dream Index. The index will map the geographic distribution of localities vulnerable to -and thriving from- different aspects of globalization, as well as identify and quantify the multidimensional nature of the benefits and costs that they bear. The research assistant should have strong knowledge of microeconometrics, international trade, and related fields such as labor, industrial organization, and political economy. The research assistant should have experience with coding, the management of large databases, and advanced data visualization.Duties include but are not limited to:
Clean already collected data and run various regressions to help in creation of the American Dream Index for the Lab for Globalization and Shared Prosperity.
Create data visualizations as needed for the Lab for Globalization and Shared Prosperity.
Contribute to the development of a dashboard to display the results of the Index.
Assist with the implementation and maintenance of data visualizations on the Lab’s website.
Work InteractionsThe research assistant will report to Professor Rudra. The position furthers GU’s mission to promote social justice.Requirements and Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree or be actively pursuing one
Previous research experience preferred but not required
A successful candidate should be creative, flexible, adaptable, and open to engaging in iterative and co-constructed research with others
Excellent management, analysis, writing skills, and ability to work interpedently and in teams in the research process
Capacity to connect details and manage multiple workflows
Strong professional judgement and cultural capacity in working with diverse groups of practitioners, researchers, and policy makers from multiple country contexts, including those with high-level roles
