Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.RequirementsDeputy Chief of Staff, Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group for Ukraine (ACA) - Law Center The Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group (ACA) for Ukraine (https://www.state.gov/launch-of-the-atrocity-crimes-advisory-group-aca-for-ukraine/) - housed within the Law Center’s International Criminal Justice Initiative - provides advice and supports the ongoing efforts of Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General to collect, preserve and analyze evidence of atrocities to develop criminal prosecutions.Job OverviewThe Deputy Chief of Staff is dedicated to supporting a large State Department grant-funded project advancing accountability for war crimes in Ukraine, and plays an important role in the leadership and management of the ACA team, ensuring the efficient execution of a large-scale, federally funded grant with operations in Washington, DC and Ukraine.As well, they are primarily responsible for ensuring that ACA operations – both Georgetown and Ukraine-based - are integrated, coordinated, collaborative, and aligned with the strategic goals of the project.Collaborating with the Project Manager, Country Director, and Secretariat Manager, the Deputy Chief of Staff oversees the development of policies and protocols and the integration of overall work streams relating to security, strategic and operational planning, safety and risk management, human resources and performance management, internal communication, procurement, budgets and internal controls to ensure the project delivers on its goals with the same innovative and collaborative spirit of the initiative itself.As well, they support the development and execution of an external communications strategy; provide strategic and operational advice and support to the work of the Multinational Fund; and represent ACA externally, including with partners and funders, high level officials, external audiences, and other stakeholder groups.The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with a strong background in organizational management and operations in high threat environments, and is experienced in public diplomacy in an international setting. They have an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for organizing and coordinating teams to achieve mission goals, including mentoring staff to achieve their highest potential; is innovative and solutions-oriented; is experienced and comfortable managing staff in a multicultural environment across time zones; and acts with integrity and discretion; and seeks clarification and guidance as appropriate.The role is a good fit for candidates with demonstrated experience in the wide range of skills and abilities needed to successfully manage a high visibility, federally-funded initiative in the context of a challenging conflict environment.Work Interactions and Work Mode DesignationReporting to the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff acts in coordination with the Country Director, Project Manager and Secretariat Manager in executing project-related tasks; and in the absence of the Chief, serves as the Acting Chief of Staff.They communicate and coordinate daily with project team members, Georgetown University colleagues, sub-contractors, independent consultants and external partners.This position has been designated as Hybrid. Bachelor’s degree - preference for a Master’s degree

At least 12 years of management experience in international organizations, government, non-profits or a similar industry

Significant experience working in conflict, post-conflict and high threat environments, including managing teams and/or projects

Excellent skills in organizational management in challenging circumstances, and mentoring staff to achieve their highest potential

Demonstrated experience growing and building initiatives and strengthening team cohesion

Strong experience in external affairs/public diplomacy in an international context

Ability to represent the organization and Georgetown University to external audiences and key stakeholders

Strong people management skills with a focus on results

Demonstrated interest in international justice, human rights, international security or a related field

Exceptional organizational, time management and coordination skills

Excellent problem-solving skills

Strong communication skills including writing, editing and presentation skills

Strong cross-cultural skills, including the ability to work effectively with a variety of people

Availability and willingness to travel

Sound judgment and a can-do positive attitude

An entrepreneurial spirit

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Preferred Qualifications

Strong knowledge of the conflict in Ukraine

Familiarity with international humanitarian and criminal law

Senior level strategic communications experience

Experience with fundraising and donor management
