Casual Public Works Outside Worker (Term)

Casual Public Works Outside Workers (Labourers) take pride in contributing to the success of the team. They work in all weather conditions to maintain Merritt’s public grounds so they can be enjoyed by our City’s residents and visitors throughout each season of the year.As a Casual Public Works Outside Worker (Term), you will assist in maintaining the City parks, landscapes, sidewalks, streets, roads, the cemetery, compost, airport, lawn bowling and ball diamonds. With your customer-service orientation, your duties may include landscaping, planting bulbs, shrubs, weeding gardens, pruning, raking and helping the team to repair potholes, concrete, bricks, and snow removal. You will run small equipment such as mowers, weedwhackers, skid steers and you may drive light-duty trucks or other equipment related to the work.Casual employees are scheduled on an as-needed basis to relieve employees who are on leaves, vacation, or during peak periods of increased workload; there are no regularly scheduled hours or guarantee of hours.
