Introduction

The State of Connecticut (https://portal.ct.gov/) , Department of Developmental Services (DDS (https://portal.ct.gov/dds?language=enUS) ) – West Region (https://portal.ct.gov/dds/searchable-archive/westregion/westregion/welcome-to-the-west-region?language=enUS) - currently has a part-time job opportunity for a Developmental Services Worker 1 (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=5661HN&R1=&R3=) (DSW1) located at the Lower Fairfield Center (LFC) Respite, Norwalk, CT.

STARTING SALARY INFORMATION

New hires to the classification of Developmental Services Worker 1 shall be paid an hourly rate of $24 (HM14)

Upon successful completion of the working test period, effective the payroll period following, the Employee shall be compensated at an hourly rate of $25.11 (HN14).

Employees who have previously completed a working test period in an 1199-covered direct-care position shall not be subject to this reduced training rate upon transfer or promotion.

Part-time, 56 hours biweekly

First (1st) shift

Friday 7:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m.; Saturday 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Sunday 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Thursday 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Regular Days Off Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday

However, work schedule flexibility is required in order to meet the demands of the job

Please Note:

Incumbents must have a valid CT driver's license.

Incumbents Will be required to travel.

Incumbents will be required to obtain an F-Endorsement on their driver’s license by the completion of the working test period.

Incumbents may be required to work nights and weekends.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for acting as part of a team in an intensive programming effort designed for the care, guidance, supervision and training of individuals.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Receives training in, then independently implements, policies and procedures designed to achieve objectives of a program for individuals with an intellectual disability;

Provides assistance and instruction to individuals in activities of daily living;

Participates in therapeutic programs for development of individuals capabilities;

Provides guidance and instruction to individuals in development of desirable personal habits, hygiene and social relationships;

Implements individual program plans;

Participates in preparation, serving and feeding of meals;

Performs housekeeping duties necessary to maintain a clean and healthy environment;

Participates in social and recreational activities;

Reinforces appropriate individual behavior through modification techniques;

May administer selected oral medications with appropriate training;

Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable

interpersonal skills;

Ability to

develop a positive relationship with individuals;

train individuals in self care habits, personal hygiene and proper social conduct;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and/or training that could be expected to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preference will be given to candidates who have:

Experience working with individuals with an intellectual and/or developmental disability ID/DD.

Experience with modern methods of working with ID/DD, or related conditions in a community environment.

Experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors.

Experience interacting with and explaining information to individuals in a fast paced environment that involves considerable phone and email contact.

Experience driving wheelchair vans.

Experience with overhead lift systems.

Medication certification.

Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and maintain their Medication Certification as defined by the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing Declaratory Ruling – Delegation by Licensed Nurses to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel,; when working in a location that does not have 24 hour nursing care.

Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.

Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license, Public Passenger Endorsement or Commercial Driver's license for designated positions.

Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
