Assistant Director for Residential Life-South Bookmark this Posting | Print Preview | Apply for this Job Position Details Position Information Position Title Assistant Director for Residential Life-South Department Residential Life -Group Pay Type Exempt Appointment Type (A) Continuing Full-Time Hours Per Week 37.5 Number of weeks 52 weeks per year other - # of weeks 52 Benefits Eligible Full Benefits Geographical National Qualifies for Relocation Reimbursement No Work Schedule Job Description General Scope of Duties The Assistant Director for Residential Education and Living, South Campus is responsible for the supervision of approximately 30 paraprofessionals to develop communities that promote the safety, belonging and wellbeing of approximately 800 undergraduate students living in over 13 unique residential communities. South campus is comprised of Windham, Harkness, Jane Addams, Freeman, Knowlton, Plant, Blackstone, Lazrus, and Abbey Houses as well as four apartment complexes. The area has all class years represented. The assistant director has a collateral assignment (10 hours a week) with the Office of Wellbeing and Health Promotion. The assistant director will work closely with the director of Wellbeing and Health Promotion to develop and implement office programs and initiatives.General Duties and Responsibilities

Provide administrative oversight, leadership, and community development to South Campus area

Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Housefellows (Senior RAs), Floor Governors (RAs), and Independent Living Coordinators – over 30 residence hall student workers

Maintain frequent and regular contact with the student residence hall staff through individual meetings, area meetings, e-mail, and phone contact

Develop healthy, engaged and inclusive communities by fostering a supportive environment focusing on student development

Assist students in academic and social adjustment to Connecticut College; assist in developing individual responsibility, personal growth and social awareness

Work collaboratively in the development of residential learning communities

Assist with housing selection, housing assignments, and other Residence Life initiatives

Serve as a Conduct Hearing Officer reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Students for this responsibility

Manage the social host program including training students on how to responsibly host events

Fulfill collateral responsibilities (10 hours a week) in the Office of Wellbeing and Health Promotion and supervised by the director of Wellbeing and Health Promotion. These responsibilities include:

provide guidance, training, and support to health promotion student peer education groups, and

Facilitate one-on-one and group education on the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs.

Serve on the on-call administrative team responding to emergencies during and after hours

Oversee the enforcement of all College rules and regulations on campus for all students

Support the curricular model of the office, as well as the Division of Student Life

Assist with program and event implementation as needed by the Office of Student Life

Serve on campus-wide committees as assigned

This is a twelve-month, live-in position. Night and weekend hours required.

Education and Skills

Master’s degree with previous experience in residential life preferred or other applicable experience required

Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training programs

Capable of handling confidential/private information with high level of integrity

Proven ability to build and sustain positive relationships with students, families, faculty and peers

Well-organized, able to work under pressure adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously and as a member of a team

Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community

Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, equity and inclusion

Light travel necessary (Ex. Program shopping, on-call hospital follow-ups with students)

Must have great communications skills
