About Us: The Georgetown Owl is a new, soon-to-open restaurant and food market located on Main Street in Georgetown, Connecticut, a unique, charming village in Redding. Our restaurant will serve unique American dishes, and the market will feature breakfast and lunch sandwiches and prepared foods.
Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to lead our kitchen. This role involves overseeing all kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food production, and maintaining a positive and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong culinary background, excellent leadership and cooking skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional dishes.
Key Responsibilities
o Collaborate on, develop, and execute innovative menu items for restaurant and market
o Cook on the line on weekday and weekend evenings
o Oversee the preparation and cooking processes to maintain high standards
o Manage and mentor kitchen staff for restaurant and market, including hiring, training, and scheduling
o Coordinate daily kitchen activities to ensure efficient workflow
o Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment in compliance with health and safety regulations. Experience developing and adhering to a HAACP plan is ideal.
o Monitor and manage inventory levels, ordering as needed to ensure stock availability
o Manage food costs by optimizing ingredient usage and minimizing waste
o Implement and adhere to standard operating procedures for kitchen operations
o Conduct regular inspections to ensure equipment is in good working order and address any maintenance issues promptly
o Analyze and improve kitchen performance through feedback, training, and process improvements
o Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure a seamless dining experience for guests
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Chef in a restaurant setting
Able to run and cook on a busy line
Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Creative mindset with a passion for food and culinary excellence
Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
Able to stand for extended periods of time
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Able to work in a hot and busy environment
Multilingual abilities are a plus, especially Spanish
