A position is now open for a RESTORATION INTERN for immediate hire!
This position is for restoration work on historic architectural wood elements such as; window sashes, doors, shutters, railings and other historical architectural features. This position is for in-shop artisan level skilled work at our facility and does not generally require any work on job sites.
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Prospective candidates with previous experience in the following will be preferred:
Working with wood window sashes, cabinets, wood railings, doors, shutters, millwork installations, or other similar kinds of work. Preferred skills include the knowledge and experience of working with jointers, planers, power saws, routing equipment, sanders, etc. Artistic skills such as working with clay and modeling or the glazing of wood window sashes with putty are desirable.
DUTIES AND OPERATIONS WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Disassembly of historic wood sashes, shutters and doors, stripping, sanding and preparation of muntins, rails and stiles for finishing, and the reassembly of component pieces.
- Fabrication of dutchmen and epoxy repairs to components and making new replacement components to match existing dimensions, profiles and joinery.
- Fabrication of components for assembly into new replacement wood sashes, wood shutters, and wood doors to match pre-existing historic architectural elements.
Must be conscientious, responsible, organized, and able to work unsupervised for most tasks. Must speak English.
Job is contract based, regular hours, 30 to 40 hour work week, with pay rate commensurate with experience and ability.
