Mechanical Lab Technician

This position requires hands-on mechanical skills and on-going self-motivation to support prototype engineering and manufacturing tasks. The position requires routine daily and weekly general shop and facility tasks, as well as specific product development mechanical technician tasks. You will be working with composites, conventional metals, plastics, production and prototype machinery, assembling molds, running ovens, curing composites, recording test data, fixing machines, and so on. This position requires daily cleaning of the work areas and organizing tools in the materials development lab and machine shop and maintaining clear and concise records. These tasks require you to be on your feet throughout most of the day - so strength and stamina are a must. Occasionally you will lift 40 lbs., and anything heavier will be done by two or more people, or a pallet truck. This position requires precision and patience. Methodical thinking is a skill absolutely required in this role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with hand tools such as wrenches, drills, utility knives, pliers, etc.

Work with and maintain CNC HAAS vertical milling center and CNC Haas lathe.

Work with and clean CNC and conventional milling/lathe machinery, lab ovens, freezers, and the shop area.

Ensure inventory and critical parts are in stock, properly marked and documented.

Proactively anticipate the needs of the machine shop, materials lab and overall facility.

Restock supplies in the lab and shop.

Unrelenting attention to detail and perform physical work daily.

Able to lift forty (40) pounds a few times per week.

Maintain notes of your daily activities in your company ledger/notebook.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be a self-starter with ongoing motivation to complete tasks with minimal to no oversight.

Worked with hand tools such as wrenches, drills, utility knives, pliers, etc. in a professional environment.

Experience in a manufacturing, mechanical, machine shop, assembly, and/or lab environment.

Comfortable and experienced with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

High School Degree or GED.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS

Experience operating, setting up, and/or coding CNC and conventional milling machines.

2-3 years’ experience in a similar role and professional environment.
