Are you excited about working with and for youth in Montezuma County? Have you always wanted to be more involved in your community? This job and organization is for you! School Community Youth Collaborative (SCYC) is a youth serving organization that provides services ranging from out-of-school time programs to youth pathways to a gear lending library. We work to provide safe spaces and prevent substance use among youth. We are a dedicated group of youth work professionals working to make Montezuma County a better place for young people. Our organization offers a hybrid work environment and generous PTO.

SCYC has been serving the youth of Montezuma County since 1999. Our mission is to support youth on their path to healthy adulthood and our vision is that all youth are valued and thriving members of our community. This position will work directly with youth and the community in order to reduce substance use, impaired driving and work to educate young drivers on safe driving practices. Continuing partnerships with local schools, and supporting safe driving practices within these schools. Work will include creating/developing or enhancing programs for young drivers. This individual will support our Youth Leadership Council program, work to develop our pilot rural drivers education program and work with community members to prevent substance use and injury in Montezuma County. The job will include regular youth programming, connecting with community partners on a regular basis, managing the safe driving grant, and marketing development for SCYC as an organization.

Leadership

Support and co-facilitate Youth Leadership Council, and incorporate safe driving education into council activities

Direct partner involvement with SCYC’s CDOT Safe Driving/Impaired driving grant; work with partners from La Plata, Montezuma and Dolores Counties

Follow CDOT Work Plan to ensure all expectations are met in La Plata County, Montezuma County, and Dolores County and ensure outcomes and deadlines are met in a timely manner

Develop and implement safe driving practices for young drivers in Montezuma County

This could include developing a local SADD chapter and connecting with local schools FCCLA chapters

Create and support safe spaces for youth in Montezuma County

Work with SCYC Director and Assistant Director to support the creation and implementation of a rural drivers education pilot program

Coordinate with current CORD partners on effective partnership opportunities

Lead partner meetings for the Coalition on Responsible Driving (quarterly)

Attend regular meetings with Montezuma Injury Prevention Action Team and the Safe Spaces Action team

Assist in the development of next year’s statement of work as well as any other CDOT requirements

Monitor and track implementation activities

Work with Director on other grant tracking requirements

Develop media campaigns in collaboration with partners aimed at raising awareness of the harms and consequences of impaired driving and promoting safe driving practices in La Plata, Montezuma and Dolores Counties

Manage SCYC marketing plan which could include posting to social media, making website edits, supporting the creation of a newsletter and creating flyers

Teamwork

Support the SCYC team through acts such as being on time for meetings, supporting the cleanliness of the office, requesting support from co-workers in a timely manner and getting work done on time

Care/Passion for Young People

Act as a representative of SCYC programs and promote prosocial opportunities for youth in Montezuma County

Act as an organizational representative and liaison to outside organizations. Build positive community relationships through participation on relevant steering committees and action teams.

Model Positive Youth Development, Trauma Informed Care and the creation of safe spaces for youth

Keep abreast of current literature on youth development.

Include a youth voice in organizational decisions when appropriate.

Financial Responsibilities

Follow SCYC policies around credit card use when purchasing program supplies and record expenses as directed by SCYC policies; return receipts in a complete and timely manner

Maintain organizational and personal integrity surrounding money use and budgeting

Work with Assistant Director to manage grant budget, changes in budget and track grant expenses

Logistics

Proficiency in Google Workspace, Excel, Canva, social media (Facebook, Instagram at a minimum), and Zoom

Ability to work independently once trained

Experience managing large teams

Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others

Experience with grant writing or willingness to learn

Creative thinking and problem solving skills

Must live in Montezuma/Dolores/La Plata County

Marketing

Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote SCYC’s programs and initiatives

Manage social media platforms and create engaging content to connect with the community

Work with the SCYC Director to create and distribute newsletters and press releases

Create promotional materials

Coordinate and assist in organizing fundraising events, online fundraisers and community outreach efforts

Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies as needed

Cultivate relationships with local media, partners and stakeholders

Collaborate with youth marketing intern to incorporate youth voice into SCYC’s overall marketing plan

Benefits

40 hours/week $26.00/hr

Hybrid work schedule, with flexibility to work from home and the office

120 hours of vacation/year (capped at 80 hours) and sick time accrued at 8 hours/month
