Position: Rodeo Grounds Caretaker (Camp Host)

Job Summary: This position will be to caretake/maintain the Pagosa Springs rodeo grounds. This person works closely with the CSU Extension office, and the Rodeo Grounds Management Committee. The position will oversee the grounds upkeep, cleanliness, basic maintenance, arena grooming, and fee collection. This position is expected to generally act like a camp host at a campground. Site has two riding arenas, stalls, and holds equine and rodeo events throughout the season.
Supervision Received
This position reports to and receives supervision directly from the Rodeo Grounds Management Committee.
Work Schedule
Start Date: As soon as possible in May 2024
End Date: Approximately 11/15/24 after 3rd hunting season
Very flexible, part-time work (flexible daytime, evenings and weekends ok, some evening/weekend work required) helping upkeep and maintain the Rodeo Grounds
Expect average of 10-15 hrs per week with up to 20 hrs occasionally on an as-needed basis
Expected to be living onsite for the duration of the contract.
Early departure before the contract end-date or extended absence is not acceptable without prior approval and may result in reduced payment.
Compensation
Free full-hookup (water, sewer, 30/50A power) for 1 RV plus space for 1-2 cars.
Pay is $17,500 for the entire season (paid $2500 at the end of each month onsite)
Candidate expected to live onsite for the duration of the contract.
Horse trailer can be accommodated if desired
Incidental use of the riding arenas is allowed without additional fees
Horse stall(s) available but will require additional fees
Small pet allowed within reason – to be negotiated – must never run free on grounds
This will be a contract position.
If a candidate desires to provide other paid services on the grounds such as ropings, gymkhana, riding clinics or training using the onsite arenas, that may be an option for the right candidate but would require additional fees for those events. Please disclose this desire when you apply – to be negotiated with the management committee.
Qualifications
Minimum of a high school diploma preferred
Excellent customer service, communications, and organizational skills.
The ability to focus and work independently.
A self-starter with the ability to perform a list of routine tasks without direct day-to-day oversight.
Maintains a high standard of work in a busy and fun environment.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Prefer some familiarity with volunteer board operations, county fairs, and Extension/4-H programs
Must pass a background check due to presence of children onsite
Must adhere to a drug and alcohol agreement and comply with site rules

Basic Financial responsibilities: purchase supplies as instructed and submit receipts/Collecting fees from users
Part time – but willing to work occasional nights and weekends.
Attend regular and special board meetings appx once per month in the evening for 1 hour
Network in and around the community promoting the grounds
Perform the day-to-day operations and upkeep for the grounds
Comply with County, State and Federal laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances
Monitor user compliance with site rules and use restrictions
Work with CSU Extension office to schedule and keep the calendar up-to-date
General labor/cleanup
Emptying trash on trash day
Mowing/Weed whacking around the buildings before events
Competent with operating a tractor. Able to follow management committee instructions on schedule and method of grooming the arena.
Weekly grounds prep of Hughes Pavilion (2 hours/time)
Perform other duties as assigned or needed
Zero tolerance for drug use (including Cannabis) on the grounds
Assumed to be an independent contractor similar to campground "camp host" arrangement.
Must live on the grounds.
