Position Summary
This is a seasonal, but full time, position (March through October). Employees will have the opportunity to return the next season. Work is outside in all elements, working with machines and live material. Employees will work in a team of operators. Involves maintenance of grounds, irrigation, loading materials in vehicles, and some customer service. Weekday and weekend shifts available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Checking grounds for watering large live materials and monitoring the irrigation systems.
Loading pallets of flagstone, pavers, boulders, etc. in rock yard.
Loading pallets of soil and bulk items (mulches, gravel, soils).
Loading trees and other live material into customer vehicles.
Unloading semi-trucks of bulk materials and live materials.
General ground maintenance of nursery (pruning, mowing, etc.).
Use equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Equipment may include skid steers, front-end loaders, forklifts, etc)
Unloading and sorting of wholesale delivery trucks
Self-motivated and able to work independently to complete tasks and meet deadlines
Assisting customers with plant selections, soil, mulches, stone, and more for their home projects or job sites
Other duties assigned by management
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Operating equipment experience (skid steers, front-end loaders, forklifts, etc.).
Customer Service experience a plus
Mechanical experience a plus
Experience in landscape, nursery, or irrigation industry is a plus
Must be able to lift at least 50 lb. and manage heavier loads.
Be able to work a physically demanding job in various weather conditions
Able to work on feet consistently with some repetitive movement
Interact well with others with good communication skills and a commitment to teamwork. Must be able to work with staff in the care and sale of plants and nursery stock.
Be able to commit to a regular schedule each week
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position is generally outdoors in all elements working in machinery, with the crew, and on foot all day. Will involve bending over, continual movement, and sitting in machinery. It is a dusty environment. Safety equipment is mandatory and provided. Operators work as a team and often coordinate with other staff. It is a busy environment through the Summer, may have to perform some customer service support.
