Position Summary
Catering to customer and contractor needs in terms of nursery goods sales and inquiries. Involves maintenance of plant material, moving materials and bagged goods, assisting with loading of vehicles, and more. This job would be mostly outside and would require being able to work in various weather conditions. Involves maintenance of plant material, moving materials and bagged goods, assisting with loading of vehicles, and more. Retail Associates will develop working knowledge of plants, amendments, lawn care, landscape design, and much more. Part time in early Spring (weather dependent) with full time hours in the summer through fall. We are looking for someone who is excited about our company and mission, and we will train the right people in gardening skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform all garden tasks related to garden maintenance and general care of nursery stock
General maintenance projects of nursery
Providing excellent customer service in person or with phone calls
Scheduling product deliveries of customer goods
Assisting customers with plant selections, soil, mulches, stone, and more for their home projects or job sites
Ringing up customer in QB POS
Pricing and restocking nursery goods
Unloading and sorting of wholesale delivery trucks under the direction of Inventory Manager and the Retail Supervisor
Self-motivated and able to work independently to complete tasks and meet deadlines
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Familiarity with POS software (QuickBooks preferred)
Customer service experience preferred
Able to lift to 50lb.
Be able to work a physically demanding job in various weather conditions
Able to work on feet consistently with some repetitive movement
Botanical and plant care knowledge preferred
Interact well with others with good communication skills and a commitment to teamwork. Must be able to work with staff in the care and sale of plants and nursery stock.
Be able to commit to a regular schedule each week
Enjoy working with people and plants
Prior experience in a similar garden center and/or nursery environment is a plus
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job involves working mostly outdoors in the elements form spring through fall. It involves many hours on your feet with heavy customer service engagement. Associates will be handling plants and basic plant care equipment daily. There will be lifting and loading of bagged goods up to 50lb. at a time. There may be noise from machinery equipment and radios. It is a dynamic environment requiring associates to stay on task and be available to customers.
