The AmeriCorps member will engage in delivering high-impact educational programming primarily to K-12 students, with a particular focus on providing equitable access to culturally relevant history education. This role supports History Colorado's mission by facilitating Hands-On History programming, field trips, and other educational activities. The AmeriCorps member may also engage in coordinating and facilitating community events, adult educational programming, and community outreach efforts. AmeriCorps Member Perks Include:

Description of JobTerms of Service:
The AmeriCorps member will serve for an average of 15 hours per week for 7 months, for a minimum of 450 hours over the course of their service term.
The Member will serve at one of the following locations: the Ute Indian Museum, the Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center, the Trinidad History Museum, or El Pueblo History Museum. Location will be determined based on applicant’s interests, mutual fit between member and site supervisor, and site capacity.
Flexible hours are required, including occasional evenings. Members may be expected to commit to weekend hours regularly.
The AmeriCorps member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator at their respective site, with additional oversight and support provided by the Program Manager.
Service term begins January 6, 2025 and ends August 8, 2025.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Facilitate the Hands-On History program and other educational initiatives, tailoring content to be culturally relevant and aligned with academic standards.
Deliver and facilitate educational content and materials for field trips, classroom visits, and special events.
Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact.
Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of educational programming.
Assist with the evaluation of program effectiveness and provide feedback for enhancements.
Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiatives projects as needed.
Training and Support Provided:
In-person orientation to History Colorado at the History Colorado Center, mileage and lodging costs covered.
Training provided by site supervisors for position responsibilities.
Additional training and professional development opportunities offered throughout the service term.
AmeriCorps positions are service opportunities and not employment positions. Members will receive a living allowance, training, and support during their service term.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsQUALIFICATIONS
Strong interest in history, education, or a related field.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
18 years of age or older.
High school diploma or equivalent.
A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident, due to AmeriCorps rules and regulations.
Ability to pass criminal history checks required.
Driver’s license preferred for Ute Indian Museum position.
Experience in educational programming, museum education, or working with K-12 students preferred.
Patience is required, as you will be in a position that largely serves children.
Background in history, education, cultural studies, or a related discipline preferred.
Familiarity with Colorado's diverse historical and cultural landscapes preferred.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
Flexibility to work weekends and special events as needed.
May require lifting heavy objects and working on ladders.
May require periodic travel by car, van, and truck to locations throughout the state, typically for periods of less than one week in duration.
