WELD SHOP MANAGER
Trinity Recycling / Thompson Welding has an immediate opening for a Weld Shop Manager. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a welding facility, including managing a team of welders, ensuring quality control, maintaining equipment, assigning projects based on blueprints and specifications, adhering to safety standards, and coordinating with clients to meet production deadlines and project requirements; essentially leading the shop to efficiently produce high-quality welded products while maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management:
Hire, train, and supervise welding staff, including assigning tasks and monitoring performance.
Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for welders to maintain skill levels and stay updated on new techniques.
Address employee concerns and performance issues.
Production Planning and Scheduling:
Analyze blueprints and job orders to determine welding processes, materials needed, and production timelines.
Create and manage production schedules to meet customer deadlines.
Allocate tasks to welders based on their expertise and project requirements.
Quality Control:
Monitor welding quality by conducting inspections and ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
Implement quality control procedures and identify areas for improvement.
Address quality issues promptly and take corrective actions.
Safety Management:
Enforce strict safety protocols and procedures within the shop.
Conduct regular safety training sessions for employees.
Inspect welding equipment and work areas to identify potential hazards.
Equipment Maintenance:
Oversee the maintenance and repair of welding equipment, including scheduling preventative maintenance.
Ensure proper storage and handling of welding materials and consumables.
Cost Management:
Monitor and manage shop expenses, including materials, labor, and overhead costs.
Identify opportunities to optimize production efficiency and reduce costs.
Customer Interaction:
Collaborate with clients to understand project requirements and specifications.
Communicate project status updates and address customer concerns.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Welding Expertise: Extensive knowledge of different welding techniques and processes, including their applications and limitations.
Leadership Skills: Ability to motivate and manage a team of welders effectively.
Technical Skills: Understanding of blueprints, welding codes, and quality control procedures.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot welding issues and identify solutions.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication to interact with clients, team members, and management.
