Deep Roots Craftsmen, a historic preservation contractor based in Fort Collins, Colorado, is looking for a preservation carpenter to join our team in the field. If you’re interested in gaining valuable experience and traveling to see some more of the state, we would love to hear from you. We are specifically looking for an addition to our team focused in rough carpentry and framing, with the role expanding to capture the always changing workload.

Focusing in preservation and traditional craftsmanship, we perform work throughout the state. Thanks in large part to one of the strongest grant programs in the country, preservation is thriving in Colorado. Most of our projects are partly state-funded, leading to an interesting and always varying range of non-profit clients and project sites. Our projects have ranged from historic barns, to school houses, to churches to museum spaces and additions/ renovations on private homes. Each job is unique in its elements but consistent in their adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.

Duties, and Responsibilities:

As a preservation carpenter, you would be completing all facets of historic preservation work in the field as a member of a small crew of 2-6 workers. The primary focus for the busy construction season would be structural stabilization and framing work. Typically, the range of skills and tasks varies by job within the historic preservation field. Come fall, once we're through a stretch of rough carpentry projects, other skills such as finish carpentry will also come in handy. Occasionally tasks include work in other preservation trades such as demolition, basic masonry, painting and other finish work. Most often, our jobs are beyond commuting distance and require weekly travel and transportation to different regions of the state. It can be a challenging schedule to spend much of the busy season on the road, but we have found the variety of interesting projects to be well worth the travel.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- First and foremost a positive attitude and interest to learn every day

- At least 5 years of carpentry experience, or comparable vocational training, with minimum 2 years experience in rough carpentry

- Interest and ability in working well with others and tackling different tasks on each job

- Familiarity with historic projects abiding by the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards is a plus

- Ability to read and understand blueprints is a plus

- Valid driver’s license and interest/ ability to drive company carpool vehicle to jobsites

- Ability to lift over 50 pounds and have general physical well-being to sustain 40 hour work weeks of challenging hands-on work

- OSHA safety training and/or familiarity is a plus

- Ability and interest to travel to remote job sites, sometimes traveling for a week at a time, staying in company-provided housing on the road

Compensation and Benefits:

- Pay will be commensurate upon experience, ranging from $22-28 an hour

- Carpenter to receive daily per diem for each work day beyond an hour from shop

- Company carpooling opportunities wherever possible

- Paid travel to job sites

As we continue to grow the business, we are passionate about assembling the right group of people. If interested, please email over your resume. You can learn more about our company at www.deeprootscraft.com. We look to hearing from you!
